NECK PAIN DURING EXERCISE… YOUR MOST COMMON COMPLAINT ANSWERED
I have a question from Joe and its exactly going to help you answer your question about your neck pain… so keep reading!
Joe called me up the other day and asked me something about his pull-ups.
He was having pain in his neck when he was doing his Pull-Ups.
WHY WOULD PULL-UPS CAUSE NECK PAIN?
So Joe is doing these really interesting pull-ups… instead of doing regular pull-ups which basically is straight up…
He was doing REVERSE STYLE pulling his neck over the bar like this:
So what happens when you do those kinds of pull-ups?
Well Joe started to feel a ton of pain in the back of his neck because he he was preparing himself for one of those mud races…So I explained something super important to him…The main reason he was having pain in his neck was that he was under- utilizing his muscles, here…
Called the LOWER TRAPS… this is SO IMPORTANT so read that last sentence again…
NOW he was over using his upper traps, these muscles over here I am pointing to in green below this sentence are called the upper traps…These muscles are like a triangle muscle that holds your neck up…
WHY ARE THE LOWER TRAP MUSCLES SO IMPORTANT?
The reason he was over utilizing those UPPER TRAP muscles is because his middle back muscles, these muscles called the Latissimus muscles, and Middle Traps or Middle Trapezius muscles…
Weren’t doing their job to hold his body in a good position…
And he was squeezing his neck muscles when he was going up for that pull up AND THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE PROBABLY DOING TOO during a bench press or any type of upper body exercise…
OK OK … NOW I PROMISED THE SUREFIRE QUICK FIX FOR YOUR NECK PAIN…
You need some sort of a chair to sit on… or a bench… so let’s go find a bench we can sit on and see if we can get this done…
HERE’S THE SNIPER SHOT NECK FIX EXERCISE…
What I need you to do is take your hands and grab behind your neck, right over here. I’m going to turn around so I can show you how this is done…
You going to grab right here behind your neck and you’re going to try to pull the skin up towards the ceiling.
So you going to take your hand, I’m going to show you with one hand… pull the skin up towards the ceiling, like that.
You’re going to pull the skin up with two hands, like that.
Once you pull the skin up, you’re going to bring your chest up to the ceiling… tuck your chin towards your throat… and look up to the ceiling… Like that.
You’re going to repeat that several times…
And what you’re going to feel is when you pull your skin of your neck up towards the ceiling… It’s going to feel a stretch, right here in the upper and middle back which the KEY TO THIS EXERCISE..
WAIT! THIS IS THE GOLDEN NUGGET – “THE THORACIC SPINE”
You need to understand this one thing.before you leave PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE LINE BELOW THIS ONE
Your thoracic spine, which is your rib cage, causes most of your neck pain and what I just showed you to do is MAGIC… Your neck pain is always caused by the rib-cage so attack that area first in your training and you will lift heavier without neck pain, and feel stronger too!
And this is how you fix neck pain at the gym!
Here is the #2 Simple trick in Fixing your neck pain in less than 30 seconds – Using a Towel?!?
And you may be surprised at just how simple it is!
No matter where you feel your pain right now…
In your arm… your elbow… your hand… in your shoulder,… or your neck…

HOW DO YOU GET BAD POSTURE?



HOW BAD POSTURE AFFECTS YOU?
Do you feel like you just can’t find a comfortable position to sit, and you only feel better when you’re kind of slouching in your chair… Or you’re sitting on the couch…
Hey I’ve also been in the same situation, comfortable in a very slouched position…Honestly that is really the bad thing to do, and I’m going to show you what to do to fix it… it’s so easy!
First let’s talk about what causes bad posture.
Bad posture is not just caused by the way you sit or stand… it’s also caused by your nervous system.
What does that mean?
Basically your brain is like a computer…
And when it gets comfortable in a position… it makes those nerves and muscles get really really tight!
So what happens is your neck muscles become really lengthened…
And your back muscles become really lengthened…
And they lose their power.
HERE ARE EASY NECK PAIN RELIEF EXERCISES FOR BAD POSTURE!
So I’m going to show you two simple exercises you can do, to undo that system, the brain, and actually reboot that computer.
Reboot that brain and get those nerves to kick in the right muscles so that your posture is automatic, all day, whenever you’re sitting, whenever you’re standing, you won’t have to think about it so often.
Are you ready for this?
Okay… so if you’re sitting down let’s stand up… That’s the first thing you want to do to improve your posture.
But you also have to improve the way you stand…
So the first thing I tell everybody to imagine… and this came from the “Alexander Technique”
Basically is… Imagine there are two strings… I’m going to turn this way to show you…
Imagine there’s two strings, imaginary strings, one on your head and one on your chest.
And now if I’m going to be standing with bad posture… I’m going to exaggerate my posture…
This string needs to be pulled.
So I’m going to imagine this string being pulled up.
When I pull on this imaginary string that’s on my chest look what happens…
The neck area automatically follows my mid thoracic area, or my middle back.
Then to fix this string over here…
I need to pull my neck up and my head up… like a puppet.
So when I pull them both strings…
Automatically my shoulders go back…
These muscles connect over here…
My neck becomes tighter… this gets stretched out….
And I have good posture!
That is a simple easy solution.
So remember two strings!
HERE IS ANOTHER GREAT POSTURE EXERCISE FOR YOU…
Get up out of your chair.. Practice that two strings… I’m going to do that for you… pull the first string…
And then pull your shoulders down and back…
Push your shoulders down like you’re pushing the floor with your hands… and squeeze your shoulder blades back!
So push down and back…
That opens up your chest….
Brings your shoulders back… and is one of the best exercises that relieve your neck pain…
Your middle back pain… and you’ll feel so much better!
If you get that one all-important piece right…
Then you’ve done 50% of the work…
HALF THE BATTLE is completed… but we still need to get through the other half the battle…
SIMPLE TRICK #4: Breathing…Your #1 INSTANT Neck Pain Reliever!
A Locked NECK is defined as a MECHANICAL PAIN…
Ever hear of BELLY BREATHING?





Most people do not breathe using their diaphragm, and this is what causes neck spasms to get worse and worse.
Most of us “Pant like a dog” when we breathe.
